WORLD WATER DAY 2024 MURAL CONTEST

Thank you for your interest in the Aquasure Barbados sponsored World Water Day 2024 Contest.

This contest was put together to  highlight World Water Day as well as to provide a space for artists to share their talents and show how positive collaboration can work. 

Two (2) finalists will be selected from among the submissions received, one in the Primary School category and the other in the Secondary School Category and each winner will receive a prize of promotional items.

The winning  schools will have their artwork transformed into a mural which will be painted by an artiste on a  wall selected by the school officials.  The winning schools will also assist with coordinating the unveiling of the mural where the media and necessary Ministers will be present. The artist(s) must also be present at the unveiling ceremony.  

By participating in the Contest or otherwise submitting any Content (as defined below), you agree to be bound by the guidelines of the competition and warrant that you satisfy all of the eligibility requirements which are listed below. For purposes of these Official Rules, the term “you” means you individually or, if you are a part of a group.

General Guidelines:

These guidelines provide an overview of how to participate in the World Water Day 2024 Mural Contest. The guidelines are designed to assure that the murals created enhance the School’s appearance, without causing any negative impact.

Submission Criteria –

  • Must follow the theme of World Water Day- “Leveraging Water for Peace.”
  • Must be original artwork of the person(s) named on the entry form
  • Happy, uplifting, inspiring and colorful in nature
  • No advertisements, watermarks,  logos or copyrighted images
  • Colors, though vibrant, should be complimentary and harmonious with the exterior colors of the building structure.

  • 2 D and 3D art work is accepted
  • Photography, digital art and videos are not accepted.
  • Art work files must be in JPG format and sent to wrdkay@yahoo.com
  • Images must be 300 DPI resolution
  • Do not submit images of the artwork which have been framed
  • All art work must be submitted using the grid method (Please note that the art work will be transformed into a mural which is 13′ x19′.

Artist/School Criteria –

  • Artists must be between the ages of 8 to 18, attending a registered Primary or Secondary School in Barbados
  • Only one entry per school will be permitted.  The best piece from each school should be submitted.
  • Each submission must carry the name of the school and the artist(s) names at the bottom left corner of the submitted art work.  

Submission:

  • Selected pieces should be submitted to wrdkay@yahoo.com on or before April 30, 2024. No entries submitted after April 30, 2024 will be accepted.
  • Label your image files in the following manner: school name, WWD2024, Mural contest. Example: Kishon Hunte Secondary School_WWD2024_Mural contest
  • The file name must not include characters such as #, $, &, periods or other similar characters as part of the file, and it is important to follow these instructions about the file name to allow the right storage into the image database.
  • The file size limit should not exceed 5MB 

Judging Criteria:

Submissions will be judged based on the following:

  • Interpretation and the clarity of the theme, to the viewer.
  • Creativity, uniqueness, and originality of the depicted theme.
  • Quality of artistic composition and overall design based on the theme.
  • Color and tone. Balance of image within its space.
  • Overall impression of the art. What is the effect of the artwork in general and as a whole?
  • Overall, does the artwork stand on its own as a complete and outstanding work of art?

 Winners Announcement:

Winners will be announced  on May 20, 2024.  The schools will be contacted by the Administrative team of the WSRN – S Barbados project and the announcement will also appear on the WSRN-S Barbados website and social media pages.

Important Information:

  • Please note that the Aquasure project logo will be placed on the top right hand corner of the murals.
  • Projects that do not meet all the design criteria/guidelines, may be eliminated from the competition

User Rights:

  • Once the design is created, the artists should sign and date his/her design. The design, as part of the competition, becomes jointly owned by the artist and the WSRN Project team.  The user also  grants use of the artwork for marketing, and promotional purposes; CCCCC,  press releases, presentations, articles, graphics, slide shows, event materials and the Aquasure website and other social media pages.
  • The artist further agrees that WSRN  can maintain an archive of the chosen artwork for a period five (5) years after the competition for the purpose of historical documentation and as a record of past themed shows. This archive will be available for public viewing and be limited to the Aquasure website. All the displayed art work will include the name of the artists which is to be placed at the bottom left hand corner of the submitted art work.
